Title
Amos Phillips Graffiti
Subject
Civil War Union Soldier
Description
In Blenheim House, the attic is filled with the signatures and drawings of hundreds of Union soldiers. At some point during the war, Amos put his name on the wall of Blenheim. Why? His motives can be speculated but not proven. Perhaps he was following his peers, or perhaps they were following him in putting their names on the wall. Perhaps he wanted to be sure his name was preserved somewhere should the next battle be his last.
His signature has been written over by a soldier named John who came to the attic at some point after Amos left.
